About SOMOS

"Somos" means "we are" in Spanish. It reflects the belief that community begins with belonging and that we are stronger when we celebrate our cultures together.

SOMOS is dedicated to connecting, celebrating, and supporting the Latin community in the Comox Valley and surrounding areas.

Through cultural events, storytelling, local experiences, and community initiatives, SOMOS brings people together while celebrating Latin-owned businesses, creatives, and the people and organizations that support and celebrate Latin culture.

Whether someone is new to the area, has lived here for years, or simply wants to connect with Latin culture, SOMOS creates opportunities to build relationships, celebrate traditions, and foster a sense of belonging.

This is just the beginning, and we're excited to build this community together.

Hi, I'm Ana.

I'm a Mexican-Canadian brand & visual designer, founder of SOMOS Comox Valley, and a proud member of Raíces Mestizas, a local cumbia dance collective.

Originally from Mexico, I've called the Comox Valley home for almost nine years.

After more than 15 years working in design, I felt called to use my creative skills to build something rooted in my own story, culture, and community.

As I became more connected to the Latin community in the Comox Valley, I realized many of us were looking for the same thing: opportunities to connect, celebrate our cultures, support one another, and feel a sense of belonging.

That's how SOMOS came to life.

Today, SOMOS brings people together by celebrating Latin culture, highlighting local businesses, sharing community events, and creating opportunities to connect.

My hope is that SOMOS helps people feel a little more at home, whether they've lived here for years, have just arrived, or simply want to experience and celebrate Latin culture in our community.

Espero que nos acompañes en este camino.
